Isn’t it amazing how quickly time flies? I was going through some old files a couple of weeks ago and realized this June marks the 5th anniversary of The Bit Station. I also realized it’s been almost 2 years since we released any kind of a company update. So, I guess we need to fix that.
Retro Surge Games Update
Let’s begin our journey over at Retro Surge Games. If you haven’t been following us very long you probably have no clue what I’m talking about. In 2018, we launched Retro Surge Games as an imprint of The Bit Station to help publish new games for classic consoles, with a heavy focus on the Dreamcast. Over the years we have announced a number of projects. Some are still in development, while others have been cancelled. In total, we have been involved in at least 8 projects that failed to make it to the finish line. That might sound crazy, but it’s actually pretty common in Dreamcast development. Some of these projects were announced publicly, while others were quietly worked on in private. The good news is we still have multiple games in active development, and one is extremely close to completion. If you’re a fan of classic Point & Click games, you’ll be excited to know our licensed port of John Passfield’s Flight of the Amazon Queen will be available for pre-order very soon. The opportunity to work with a gaming legend like John Passfield (co-creator of Ty the Tasmanian Tiger) has been very exciting for all of us. We also want to clarify that neither this game nor any game published by Retro Surge Games will be exclusive to The Bit Station. Instead, we have created a network of official retailers that will stock our games. The most exciting part of this is if you live in Europe, you don’t have to pay additional shipping and import fees to get our games!
The Bit Station Update
Along with the Flight of the Amazon Queen pre-order, we’re also working on restocking several titles that have been sold out for some time. If you have been following our “Upcoming Games” page on our website (and if not, check it out!), you know we have plans to stock a number of upcoming Dreamcast games. Additionally, if there is any new Dreamcast games or products you would like us to stock, please let us know. As more companies and developers get involved with the Dreamcast scene it’s getting harder for us to keep track of everything going on.
What? Another One?
Now for the single most cliché announcement of 2021! We’re super excited to announce the launch of the Silicon Beards Podcast! The podcast will be hosted by yours truly, along with my co-host and good friend, Darron Hudgins (trust me, you’ll be hearing that name a lot in the future). If you’re wondering why it’s called the Silicon Beards Podcast, then tune in and find out. I’m sure we’ll get around to it at some point. Also, if you like video games, gaming culture, music, theme parks, behind the scenes info about Retro Surge Games, interviews, llamas, and some other random stuff then give us a shot! We hope to release our debut episode sometime in early April.
Super-Secret Project
That about wraps it up, however, we do want to tease one last project. In fact, this may be the largest project we have ever attempted. We don’t want to ruin the surprise just yet, so we won’t go into much detail. We will say it is not a Dreamcast game nor a game of any kind for that matter, but it is gaming related. This project has been a big focus of ours for almost a year now and has been in development for over two years. As we move forward as a company, we plan for this project to become a central part of our operation. We also hope it will help foster a better sense of community among gamers.
Thank You!
Last, but not least, as we move toward our 5th anniversary and beyond, we want to say a big thank you to everyone for their support and business. Without you, there is no us. Literally, we couldn’t afford to keep the lights on.
